Linda Gail Staples was born on October 2, 1948, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to David Madison Caldwell and Hazel Stanley Caldwell. During Linda’s life, she lived in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma. She was a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After moving to Oklahoma in 1980, she became Vice-President of Landmark Bank in Tishomingo, then relocated to Kingston, Oklahoma, in 1988 where she owned an independent insurance agency for 15 years. She then took an accounting position with the Oklahoma State Parks and Tourism at Lake Texoma for 3 years before moving to Oklahoma City in 2006 as an accountant with the Oklahoma State Election Board where she later retired on December 1, 2016.
During her years living in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, and in Kingston, Oklahoma, she was honored to serve as the President of the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs in both Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Madill, Oklahoma. She was named Woman of the Year for Johnston County during those years as well. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City where she also served as a Deacon. She loved participating in the Church’s various outreach programs and activities.
Linda enjoyed a full and active lifestyle including camping, golfing, gardening, scrapbooking, travel and spending time with her family and her many loving friends.
She is predeceased by both parents and her sister, Debra Jean Caldwell Burke, her first husband, Larry Mack Ivy and her second husband, David James Gilpin and her step-son, Monty Gilpin. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Lee Staples. Linda’s surviving family also includes her two wonderful children: her son, Douglas Dewayne Ivy and his wife, Randi Ivy of Stratford, Oklahoma, their children, Megan Nicole Ivy, Jaxon Bryant, and Calvin Mack Ivy, and Linda’s daughter, Lara Michelle Glynn and her husband, Robin Glynn of The Woodlands, Texas, and their children, Reese Glynn and Ryan Glynn. Linda’s extensive surviving family also includes 3 step children and their spouses, 2 former daughter’s in-law, 12 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grand-children. Their names are: Darcy and Richard Blanchard, of Kingston, Oklahoma, Torie Hampton and her husband Hunter and their children, Wyatt and Quinley Hampton, Tyler Blanchard, Tanner Blanchard; Rana Smith of Emet, Oklahoma, Taron Gilpin, Trevon Gilpin; Sonya Cole, of Norman, Oklahoma, Cassidy Johnson, Dirk Johnson, and Whitley Johnson; Ronald Staples, Jr. and his wife Bridget of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nicole Staples and Amanda Staples; Sherri Fulton of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Jessica and Carl Hurdle, their children, Kinley, Peyton, Ashlyn, Kaiden, and Kyler Hurdle and Dustin and Marcy Fulton and their children, Daniel, Alayna, Leah, Sadie, Cheyenne, Easton Fulton.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17th, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 18th, 2019. Both will be held at the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City located at 1201 N. Robinson Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.
