Funeral services for Mary Jo (Johnson) Heard will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Dougherty Cemetery.

Mary was born April 27, 1946 in Clinton, South Carolina. She died Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Shawnee, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 20 days.

Mary grew up in Newberry, South Carolina. Following high school she attended Clemson University, majoring in Nursing. Following college, Mary spent her career working as a nurse. In the 1980’s, she and her family moved to the Oklahoma, where she worked as a nurse at the Pauls Valley State School. After 15+ years, Mary retired and moved back to South Carolina for a brief time before returning to Oklahoma, to be near her daughter. Mary always had a desire to care for others. Even in her retirement years, she worked as a private in-home caregiver for several families in the Sulphur area. Mary was an avid fan of NASCAR. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her two granddaughters.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee Jenkins and husband CJ of Sulphur; and her two granddaughters, Elizabeth Lynne and Hailee Jo Jenkins.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her uncle, Bo Attaway and aunt, Dina Dunham, who raised her.
