Funeral services for Norman Eugene Shiplett will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, Mar 24, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with the Reverend Don Waters officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Norman was born Sept 9, 1945 in Enid, to the late James Alfred Roy & Aira Mae Geraldine (Perrin) Shiplett. He died Sunday, Mar 20, 2016 in Davis, at the age 70 years 6 months & 11 days. Norman and the former Judy Carol Easley were married on Jan 30, 1976 in Davis.
After graduating from Morrison High School in May 1963, Norman began a career with the Stillwater Milling Co. In 1976, he moved to Davis, where he continued his career with Stillwater Milling at their Davis plant, retiring as Plant Manager in May 2015.
Norman was a true servant, not only to Christ his Savior but to his community as well. He devoted 20 years of dedicated service to the Davis Fire Dept, retiring in 1996. During his time with Davis Fire Dept, Norman served seven years as the fire chief. He also served 22 years as a reserve police officer for the City of Davis and currently served as the director of the Davis Civil Defense, beginning in 1988. Norman was a member of the Davis Retired Firemen’s Assn, past member of the Oklahoma Firefighter’s Assn and the Oklahoma Fire Chief’s Assn, current member of the board of directors for the Hennepin Fire Dept.
Survivors include his wife Judy; three daughters, Lorissa Kekel & husband Todd of Canton, GA, Daina Deaton & husband Michael of Davis and Devree Couri & husband Jo of Davis; seven grandchildren, Madicyn & Norman Lewis, Garrett & Brylee Deaton, all of Davis and Alexandra Bearden & husband Adam, Katherine Kekel & fiancé Tyler, and Nikolas Kekel, all of Canton, GA; two brothers, Freddie Lee Shiplett & wife Hazel of Stillwater and Paul Dean Shiplett & wife Darlene of Glencoe; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by one sister, Eula Rose Davis and two brothers, James Alfred Roy Shiplett, JR and Sidney Allen Shiplett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Darryl McCurtain, Arlin Bittle, Chuck Bonham, Kurt McGaha, Scott McGaha & Ryan Thomas. Honorary bearers will be Homer Rowell, Howard Bolding, Wayne McGee and all present and retired members of the Davis Fire Dept.
