Obituary for H. L. "Buck" Wilson

Funeral services for Harold Loyd “Buck” Wilson will be held 10:00AM, Monday, October 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with the Reverends Berry Norwood and Clay Shannon officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Buck was born November 8, 1930 in Davis to the late Onis Matthew and Callie Mae (Sanders) Wilson. He died Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 86 years 11 months and 4 days.

Buck grew up in Davis, graduating from Davis High School in May, 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Faye Busby on March 23, 1950 in Davis. Following their marriage, Buck and Wanda moved to the Dallas area where he worked for a steel company, only to return home to Davis a short time later. For several years, Buck owned and operated a small pig farm and later a service station. In the late 1960’s Buck began managing Zip’s Grocery Store in Davis. Later Zip’s sold to the Carver family and it became known as the Super C Mart of Davis with Buck managing. After 25+ years managing the grocery store, he retired, only to go to work for the City of Davis as the city manager, retiring in 2001.

Any one that truly knew Buck Wilson knew several important things about his life; first and foremost, he was a devoted Christian man, he loved his family and community and he was an avid OU Sooners and Davis Wolves fan. He rarely ever missed a Davis football game and attended most OU football games. Buck was a very devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Davis where he served as a deacon and treasurer for many years. He was also a past president and member of the Davis Kiwanis Club, served on the board of directors for the Davis Chamber of Commerce, served several terms on the Davis Public Schools Board of Education, as well as served on the Southern Oklahoma Development Authority board. In his spare time, Buck enjoyed traveling with his family, fishing and collecting coins.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim Murray & husband John of Davis; four grandchildren, Julie Hefley & husband Blue of Davis, Brad Wilson & Randi of Oklahoma City, Jordan DeHart & Sarah of Davis and Taylor Murray of Davis; as well as one brother, Edward “Sonny” Wilson of Ada and one sister in law, Delma (Hefley) Wilson of Davis.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda on March 7, 2010; one son, Tim Wilson, on June 28, 2012; one brother, Billy O. Wilson and one sister, Evelyn Jane Barnett.

Serving as pallbearers will be Monte Thompson, Mickey Hoy, Bill Dulaney, David Tobey, Wayne Webb, Randy Moore, Joe Webber and Jim Clemons. Honorary bearers will be Dale Noland, Chris Chou, Dewayne White and Pete Byrd.
