Roy Ray Bristol, 87, was born February 9, 1939, in rural Murray County, to the late Leasle Edwin & Mabel Inice (Sandefur) Bristol. He passed from this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Wynnewood, surrounded by his beloved family.
Roy grew up north of Davis, where he lived his entire life. He attended elementary school at Joy, prior to graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1957. After high school he attempted to continue his education at Murray State College prior to the US Army requesting his service. With immense pride Roy devoted two years of service to our great country.
Roy was a life-long farmer/rancher. Prior to being of legal age, he began driving cattle trucks, delivering registered Herford Cattle all over the country for the Flying "L" and the Turner Ranches. His cattle hauling became public and extended throughout his life until failing health prevented him from making long trips.
Raising cattle was much more than just a hobby for Roy. It was his way of life, and he took it very seriously. He was known for raising top quality cattle and cared for his herds like no other. Roy kept records of all his cattle and could tell you anything and everything about each head in his herd.
Roy was what some would call financially frugal. Whether it was buying cattle, feed, propane or used farm equipment, Roy wanted the seller's absolute best price. Often, he had to think about that bottom dollar a day or so before making the purchase. He never missed an opportunity to attend an auction, and if there was a propane tank in that auction, 99% of the time, Roy brought it home to add to his collection.
Roy was a quiet man with a very dry sense of humor. He could occasionally be a little ornery and pull jokes on his friends. Although he often exhibited a rugged exterior, Roy actually had a heart of gold. He was quick to secretly pry open his billfold to help with area fundraisers when it came to supporting children, churches, or a family in need. Roy was always incredibly supportive of his family and made sure their needs were met. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. Roy will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jo Benke of Ft Worth, TX, and Wava Scott of Wynnewood; as well as several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin "Ed" Bristol.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis. Roy's nephew, Ed Benke, will officiate the service.
Services are "entrusted to" HALE'S FUNERAL HOME, DAVIS.
