Stephen Arthur Howe went to be with the Lord on June 27, 2026. He was 80 years old.
Steve was born to Pete and Pug Howe of Nebo, Oklahoma on March 16, 1946. He grew up on the family dairy farm developing a strong work ethic at an early age that served him throughout his entire life. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1964 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree, and a lifelong love for the Cowboys. After college, he returned home to operate Nebo Jersey Farm for many years before continuing his love of agriculture at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, where he worked until his retirement. On February 18, 1978, he married Sherry (Hilliard) Howe. From this union came three children, Stephenie Ringwald, Kali Howe and Logan Howe and wife Cassey. Steve was the proud “Popsy” to five grandchildren, Tallie Tynes, Kaedyn Howe, Taelyn Ringwald, Tenley Howe, and Kase Howe. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his sister, Kaye Roach. He is survived by his sister, Karen Byrd, along with his children, grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Steve was the true north of his family; a calm, steady, unwavering presence whose love, support, and commitment were unconditional. No matter how many times someone needed him, no matter how far away, no matter how often, Pops was always there with an understanding nod, a somewhat practical solution, and a gentle reminder that things could always be worse.
Steve loved God, Nebo, the family farm, OSU, and above all, his family. His greatest joy was found in his children and grandchildren. Popsy never missed a chance to sneak up and spook one of the grandkids or to tell them how proud he was of them. He could often be found at the ballpark cheering them on at one of their many games or "piddling" in the barn, working on a woodworking project.
Steve lived a life of quiet faith, hard work, and humility. He followed God's word, led by example, and rarely complained. If you asked those who knew him to describe him, the word you would hear again and again would be, "good." Not good in the ordinary or categorical sense, but good in the deepest, purest, most enduring way; a man of unwavering character whose kindness never depended on the circumstances or the crowd.
There are no words that can fully capture his legacy or the profound impact he had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. His example will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, at the First Free Will Baptist Church, in Sulphur. Danny Hilliard and Pastor Dick Terry will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Nebo-Drake Cemetery.
