Sybil (Capshaw) Willey


Sybil was born July 13, 1924 in Byars to the late George Russel & Sarah Frances (Stone) Capshaw. She died Sunday, Jan 17, 2016, at her home in Sulphur, at the age of 91 years, 6 months & 4 days. Sybil and the late Edward Eugene “Gene” Willey were married on Nov 24, 1945 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on Dec 27, 2011.

Sybil grew up in Byars where she graduated from high school in the early 1940’s. She attended Oklahoma City Nursing School where she later became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Sybil and Gene made their home in Kingsville, TX from many years. While living there, she spent 25 years working as a nurse at the Kleberg County Hospital, retiring in 1984. In 1985, she & Gene moved to Sulphur to enjoy their retirement years. In her spare time, Sybil enjoyed landscaping & tending to her yard. She was very active with the Davis Senior Citizens. She was a member of the East Main Church of Christ in Davis, where she devoted many hours serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Lynette Pruett & husband Bill of Manvel, TX and Rebecca Jòh Booth & husband David of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Dr. Anthony Pruett & wife Summer of Jena, LA, Jennifer Pruett of Pearland, TX, Daniel A. Graves & wife Tiffany of Robstown, TX, Clayton Graves & wife Kristina of Corpus Christi, TX and Joanna M. Szuluk & husband Billy of College Station, TX; five great-grandchildren, Callie Jóh Graves, Hayden Richard Graves, Madison Paige Szuluk, Mason Graves and Austin Graves; as well as, one sister, Joh (Capshaw) Gainey of Sulphur & one brother, Louie Edward Capshaw of Gordo, AL.

Others preceding Sybil in death include one grandson, Lincoln Graves and four brothers, Charles Bales, Clem Calvin, William Perry and Jerrett Durwood Capshaw.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clayton Graves, Billy Szuluk, Stanley Gainey, Randy Archer, Bruce Reynolds and Carl Ratchford.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday evening from 5-7PM.

Memorial contributions can be made in Sybil’s memory to Cross Timbers Hospice of Ardmore.
