Sybil Eileen Oliver was born April 6, 1942, in Sulphur, to the late Hubert & Norma (Roland) Riddle. She passed from this life on Monday, November 17, 2025, in Sulphur, at the age of eighty-three. Sybil and Larry Eugene Oliver were married on July 13, 1973, in Dallas, TX. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2019.
Sybil grew up various in communities in Oklahoma and Texas, as her family moved often for work. After raising her children, she attended Texas Woman’s University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work. Throughout her years in this profession, she worked with the Salvation Army, New Beginnings Women Shelter and later retired from the Sulphur Veteran’s Center.
Sybil was a devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Central Church Fellowship of Believers, where she greatly enjoyed assisting wherever she was needed. She was also active with an area sorority group, and a widow’s group, cherishing the friendships she made with both groups. As a lover of the outdoors, Sybil enjoyed planting gardens and tending to her flowers in her spare time.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Grissom of Sulphur; four granddaughters, Amy Baumann, Amanda Ladd, Audrey Grissom, and Marcella Rodrigues; and six great-grandchildren, Laurie, Michael, Matthew, Gracie, Edward, and Kaisen.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sybil was preceded in death by two sons, Mike Grissom, and Johnny Grissom; as well as her sister, Judy Griffin.
A service to celebrate Sybil’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Central Church Fellowship of Believers, 45 Shepherd Hills Rd, in Sulphur. Brother Thomas J. Thompson will officiate the service.
