Travis Eugene Vaughan

Travis Eugene Vaughan was born April 6, 1943 in Mangum, OK. He died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Wynnewood, at the age of 77. Travis and the former Ms. Lucy Azelle Samis were married on March 26, 1966 in Vernon, TX. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2012.

Travis grew up in the Snyder, Oklahoma area. Following his service with the United States Army, he began working in the granite quarries, securing tablets to be used for monuments. In 1980, Travis began his own monument company, known as Mill Creek Monuments, retiring and selling the business in 2018.

Travis was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a very devoted father and cherished his family greatly. Travis was a faithful member of the Mill Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church where he enjoyed volunteering and helping around the church as needed. In his spare time, he enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends, collecting coins and talking politics with anyone that would lend an ear.

Travis is survived by two daughters, Gina Bruster of Mill Creek and Anissa Vaughan of Sulphur; three grandchildren, Shandalyn Bruster, Hannah Arnold and Bryan Samis; one great granddaughter, Harleigh Azele; his siblings, Billy Emery, Johnny Emery, Tommy Emery, Tony Emery, Ony Emery, Bobby Emery, Jackie Emery, Starla Shouse and Darla Emery; as well as his loving companion, Dorothy Pontius of Wynnewood and her family including three daughters, Billie Howell & husband Brian, Cassandra Elms and Shawna Pursiville & husband Frank; as well as her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Travis was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Joe and Nathalia (Sirmons) Emery; one son-in-law, Donald Bruster; and siblings, Zonnie Emery, Carlton Emery, Savonda Emery Rose Harris and Vienna Emery.

Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Mill Creek with Brother Jim Yeager officiating. Interment will follow at the Troy Cemetery.
