Vadna Ruth Pope was born August 28, 1940, in Sulphur, OK, to the late Edgar James "Ed" & Alma Idella (Broom) Crawford. She passed from this life on Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Sulphur, at the age of 85. Ruth and James E. Pope were married on December 16, 1960, in Ardmore, OK. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1993.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Davis. After graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1957, she attended business school in Oklahoma City. For many years, she kept books and helped run her father's business, Crawford Implements of Davis. After her father retired and closed the family business, Ruth worked for the Jack Webb Construction Company of Davis, prior to owning and operating P&G Laundry Service, with her daughter Gayle.
Ruth's entire life was built around family farming. She believed in hard work and never shied away from any of it, nor was she afraid to instruct others to do hard work. According to Ruth's family, "If mama worked, we all worked!!" There was no work around the farm that she did not, could not and would not do.
Ruth was a very loving and devoted mother; however, her greatest joy in life was being a "Nana"! She never missed a school or life event her grandchildren or great-grandchildren were involved in. Her life revolved around her family, and she was truly their biggest cheerleader. Speaking of cheering, Ruth was a die-hard Davis Wolf Fan. She loved watching the Wolves play football, and very seldom, no matter where they played, did she miss a game. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching old western shows.
Those left to carry on Ruth's legacy include her daughter, Gayle Gray; her son, Bobby Pope; grandson, James "Cooter" Gray & wife Dea; granddaughter, Malorie Pope; great-grandchildren, Corbyn & Berkley Gray; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Allen Gray; infant granddaughter, Jamie Gray; and her four siblings, Bob Crawford, Ruby Vernon, Dorothy Brown, and Jack Crawford.
Services for Ruth will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Central Church of Believers, east of Davis, with Brother Thomas J. Thompson officiating.
Services are "entrusted to" Hale's Funeral Home of Davis.
